HVAC Technicians in New Mexico

HVAC technicians handle the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems for business and residential consumers. Air conditioning systems use gases combined with atmospheric air to cool an area and refrigeration systems cool using a series of gas-filled tubes. Most technicians choose to specialize in one area of HVAC work, while others choose to know a little about all types of cooling systems.

In addition to formalized vocational training, all New Mexico HVAC technicians must have a contractor’s license. HVAC techs should be physically fit and mentally strong in math, science and computer subjects. Some technicians eventually go on to work as project supervisors, while others work in sales and marketing, or as cost estimators and system test and balance specialists.

Solar Panel Installation

Solar panel installers equip homes and businesses with photovoltaic, or PV systems. PV systems convert sunlight into electricity. Installers handle every detail: land surveys, hazard mitigation, system design and unit testing. Handling solar panel installation requires that technicians have a respect for both the environment and electrical power.

Solar panel installation techs must obtain apprenticeship or attend programs like the Electro-Mechanical Technologies Program offered at RSI. Workshops in PV design, PV installation and certification training must also be successfully completed. After completing training, solar panel installation technicians working in the state of New Mexico must be certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. The Refrigeration School offers both in person and online solar panel installation training programs.
