While he was playing Cliff Clavin on Cheers, John Ratzenberger was the resident know-it-all. Now he’s got something else to say.
He is concerned about the lack of interest in blue collar work and trade knowledge in general. His organization, Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs (NBT), has recently published the results of a survey which found that 58% of adults have not completed one “do-it-yourself” type project. This reluctance to attempt a repair at home has a dual effect on trade schools and the HVAC industry.
More People Leaving the HVAC Repairs to a Trade Professional
For one, it means that instead of heading down to the hardware store, homeowners are contacting HVAC contractors to perform repairs. This is good news for HVAC contractors and HVAC technicians alike. As long as people rely on them for HVAC repair and maintenance, their jobs are safe. That’s not all that NBT uncovered in their surveys.
Less Interest in Trade Schools can Increase Demand for Trained Professionals
Another buzz-worthy survey from ACHR News revealed that 73% of the youngsters polled had no interest in becoming a blue collar worker later in life. The supply of HVAC technicians is already starting to thin out due to the fact that more and more baby boomers are retiring. This decrease in workers, coupled with the fact that very few youngsters looking to enter into trade schools, means there could be a very higher demand for blue collar workers in the future.
Contact RSI Today if You’re Interested in Becoming a HVAC Technician
If you are interested in filling this demand, you should consider attending Refrigeration School Inc. While attending our Phoenix trade school, you can learn HVAC skills like cooling and heating technologies, electrical maintenance, and electro-mechanical principles.
It looks like there are going to be fewer and fewer qualified HVAC technicians available as time goes on. The need, however, for these technicians is not going away. This is why attending vocational classes at RSI to become a HVAC technician is such a great opportunity.
