How Does this Certification Compare to Others?

HVAC Excellence is just one of many available certifications. Other sources of HVAC certification include North American Technician Excellence (NATE), the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 certification. The EPA certificate is mandatory for those with access to refrigerant containers or systems, while the others can be obtained after an HVAC technician has one year of installation experience and two years of repair and maintenance experience. 5

NATE and HVAC Excellence offer certifications through exams to validate competence in industry codes and performance standards; HVAC Excellence and RSES both provide specialty certifications, but RSES also offers EPA certification exams. The Bureau of Labor Statistics cites all of these certifications as helpful to increasing career opportunities for Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers (49-9021). 6
